The history of ADRA International

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) is the global humanitarian organization of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It was founded in the early 1890s as a charitable association dedicated to charity work in the suburbs of Chicago, United States. Founded in 1956 as the Seventh-day Adventist Welfare Service and renamed ADRA in 1983, the agency has a long and successful history of providing humanitarian aid and implementing development initiatives.

Development Cooperation
In 1997, ADRA was granted General Consultative Status with the United Nations, the highest status given to non-governmental organizations. This allowed us the opportunity to engage in the international community on a broader scale.

The history of ADRA Colombia

It officially began its activities in 1989, although its presence had been felt since the inception of the Adventist Church's work in this nation through OFASA (Adventist Social Philanthropic Work).
In 1994, it acquired its own office in Bogotá thanks to the support of the AECI (Spanish Agency for International Cooperation).

Member of the Technical Commission of the Risk Knowledge Subdirectorate at the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD) of the Republic of Colombia.

Emergency Prehospital Technologist from the Adventist University Corporation.

Founder of the Rescue Corporation GARSA in 1992 in the city of Medellín, Antioquia.

Worked as the Coordinator of the Prehospital Care Program at the Adventist University Corporation (UNAC) for 10 years.

Participated as Co-leader of the delegation sent by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Colombia to provide First Response assistance in the earthquake in Haiti in 2010.

She has worked on various projects with ADRA Colombia as an Administrative Accountant from 2018 to 2020 in the health project HBM “Support for Venezuelans in Health and Basic Needs” and SSSE-VEN “Health and Essential Supplies Service for Venezuelans in Bucaramanga and Medellín”. She also served as Administrative and Financial Coordinator during the years 2021-2022 in the project SHAWA “Optimized Health and WASH Activities for Venezuelan Migrants in Colombia” and SASVEN “Health and Food Security for Venezuelans in Colombia”.

She has over 10 years of accounting experience in the private sector and 12 years of experience in handling treasury funds for the local church.
